Expected behaviour

Participants should:

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally.
  • Give constructive and specific feedback.
  • Respect differences in experience, discipline, background, and viewpoint.
  • Focus criticism on ideas, records, metadata, documentation, or code rather than individuals.
  • Protect confidential and sensitive information.
  • Disclose relevant conflicts of interest.
  • Follow applicable legal, ethical, and institutional requirements.
  • Accept curator decisions professionally, including requests for changes or decisions to decline submissions.

Unacceptable behaviour

Unacceptable behaviour includes:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination
  • Personal attacks
  • Threats or incitement
  • Deliberate disruption
  • Publication of private information without permission
  • Repeated unwanted contact
  • Spam or advertising
  • Fraudulent authorship or identity claims
  • Deliberate submission of malicious files
  • Sharing credentials or restricted data
  • Retaliation against people who report concerns

Scope

This code applies to:

  • GitHub issues
  • Pull requests
  • Discussions
  • Repository contributions
  • Community curation interactions
  • Other official community communication channels

Enforcement

Maintainers may edit, hide, lock, or remove content that violates this code.

Depending on severity and context, maintainers may:

  • Issue a warning
  • Request corrective action
  • Close or lock an issue
  • Decline a submission
  • Remove a contributor from community spaces
  • Report serious conduct to the relevant platform or institution

Reporting

Do not report private, sensitive, or security-related concerns in a public issue.

Use GitHub private vulnerability reporting for security concerns when available:

For other sensitive conduct concerns, contact a repository maintainer through an appropriate private channel listed on their GitHub profile.

Good-faith reporting

Retaliation against a person making a good-faith report is prohibited.

Knowingly false or malicious reports may themselves be treated as a violation.
